CaRi-heart technology
Revolutionary new technology to assess the risk of a serious heart condition or heart attack – many years before anything happens.
Tendons are the tissue that connect your muscles to your bones and allow us to move our limbs. Most people are aware of their Achilles tendon. Sometimes tendons can tear or rupture typically during physical activity. At HCA UK we offer tendon repair surgery to fix torn tendons to help you get back to fitness after an injury.
Tendon injuries are relatively common and rarely serious, they can be torn, or ruptured. Your consultant may suggest surgery if other types of treatment, such as physiotherapy, haven't worked or if you've torn your tendon badly.
Surgery can be carried out on any tendon but it's usually done on shoulders (distal bicep repair), hands, wrists and the foot and ankle (Achilles tendon repair).
What happens during your procedure depends on the nature of your tendon injury. Your procedure could be carried out under general anaesthetic, or you might have a local anaesthetic just to numb the area. Your surgeon will discuss this with you beforehand.
Your surgeon will cut into your skin and stitch the ends of the torn tendon together before closing the area with stitches. Wherever possible, your surgeon will use a minimally invasive keyhole technique. If your injury is serious, they may take a piece of tendon from another part of your body and graft it on to the injured one.
Tendon repair surgery costs vary due to where your procedure takes place. For example, in the shoulder for rotator cuff tears, in your hand for trigger finger treatment, in your calf and ankle to repair an Achilles rupture. You may have medical insurance and we work with various private medical insurance companies. However, you don't need medical insurance to have fast access to our orthopaedic consultants, specialist treatments, diagnostic tests and surgical procedures at our leading facilities.
We're happy to help you make an appointment with one of our experienced orthopaedic consultants to discuss your tendon repair treatment. We can also make imaging and outpatient physiotherapy appointments for you.
