Your team
Working together, working for you
At the Wellington Hospital, we have a lot of medical expertise in one place. Over the last 20 years or so, we’ve developed a culture of working in multidisciplinary teams (MDT), with experts from different medical specialisms all working together. This way, we can give our patients the wide-ranging support they need, no matter how complex their condition.
It’s also how we’re able to offer five or six hours of therapy a day across the different disciplines, giving patients both the emotional and practical support they need. We’ve seen first-hand, that when you’re with a team that really cares about you, it makes a huge difference to everybody.
And when we say everybody, we mean it. The support of our patients’ family and loved ones play a central role in their recovery. That’s why we also encourage our patients’ relatives to join the MDT on their loved one’s behalf. Many of them become a part of the core rehabilitation team, learning how to care for their loved one, whether on ward visits, or following their transfer home.
A multidisciplinary approach to care
Our neurologists lead the rehabilitation process, providing expert diagnosis, treatment plans, and ongoing management of neurological conditions. They coordinate with other specialists, ensuring a holistic approach to your care.
Our dedicated nurses provide round-the-clock care, monitoring your progress, administering treatments, and offering emotional support throughout your rehabilitation journey.
Specialising in neurological conditions, our physiotherapists work to improve your mobility, strength, and coordination. Using advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technologies, their focus is on helping you regain lost functions and develop new movement patterns.
Our neuropsychologists assess cognitive functions and provide therapies to address challenges in memory, attention, and problem-solving. They also offer crucial emotional and psychological support during your recovery.
These specialists help with communication difficulties and swallowing problems that may arise from neurological conditions. They work to improve your speech, language comprehension, and safe swallowing techniques.
Our occupational therapists focus on helping you regain independence in daily activities. They assess your needs and provide strategies and adaptive techniques for tasks like dressing, cooking, and personal care.
Proper nutrition is crucial to patient recovery. Our specialist dietitians create personalised nutrition plans to support your rehabilitation, addressing any swallowing difficulties or specific dietary needs related to your condition.
Our specialist music therapy team support patients affected by neurologic injury or disease using musical and rhythmic techniques. They help to improve speech, movement and cognition, working closely with the wider team to set realistic goals and support progress.
