About
The time during your menstrual cycle when your body releases an egg is called ovulation. This is the most fertile time in your cycle. Tracking your period and monitoring changes in your hormones can help you to determine when you're ovulating and increase your chances of getting pregnant.
If your cycle is irregular or ovulation isn't happening, fertility medication can help to stimulate your body to release an egg. This is known as ovulation induction.
Your consultant may first recommend a course of fertility tablets such as Clomiphene or Letrozole. These are taken for five days around the start of your period. An ultrasound scan or blood test will then be done to check if the tablets have stimulated normal egg production.
If not, fertility injections may be recommended. Injections are a more potent form of fertility medication and can increase your chance of a multiple pregnancy.
