What is genito-urinary medicine?
Genito-urinary medicine is dedicated to sexual health. It includes the diagnosis and treatment of all sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and conditions that affect the genital and reproductive organs in men and women. Our consultants and nurses are experienced in dealing with sensitive issues and are here to give you confidential advice. They treat you with respect and act with discretion at all times to help you feel comfortable and confident. We're often able to give you same or next-day appointments. We screen for many conditions including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, herpes, genital warts, infections, hepatitis A, hepatitis B and HIV. Your results come back quickly — sometimes on the day. And we can give you any treatment or referrals you might need quickly. We also have counselling service for couples and individuals who'd like some support.

HIV test
Need to know
If you think you may have been exposed to the HIV virus, it's best to seek medical advice as soon as possible. A blood test could put your mind at rest or make sure you get the treatment you need quickly.

Hepatitis B test
Need to know
A blood test can detect various parts of the hepatitis virus. The hepatitis B test detects for a protein on the surface of the virus called hepatitis B surface antigen (HbsAg). If you are found to be infected (if your test is HBsAg-positive), your consultant may recommend further tests.

Having a sexual health screen can be a positive thing to do if you're sexually active or you've had unprotected sex.
