Valuing all colleagues
On 12th June 2020, HCA Healthcare UK CEO, John Reay wrote the following to all colleagues:
Dear colleagues,
I’m sure you will be aware over the past few weeks there has been growing significant global unrest as the world faces yet another major challenge on how we tackle racism. While many of you know who we are as a company and what we stand for, I want to take this moment to reaffirm it. At HCA Healthcare, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life.
HCA UK is an organisation which is devoted to the welfare, physical and mental health of our patients and our colleagues. Our values run very deeply in this company and they are practised each and every day by the dedicated professionals who make up this organisation. One of the values which we hold most dearly is that all of us have unique and intrinsic value, no matter our race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, religion, or whatever it is which makes us the individual we are. We believe that the differences between us are virtues to be celebrated and not causes for division.
However, I am conscious that this is an issue that our work in this area is far from finished. HCA UK is dedicated to reviewing its practices and actions at every level of the organisation to ensure that our values of inclusivity and diversity are lived and delivered in everything we do.
We pride ourselves on being a listening organisation and I want to ensure that we hear as many voices as possible on this issue. It is clear there is still much more we can do, but this is best shaped by the experiences and concerns of you, our colleagues.
There are many ways you can contribute to this – from our Vital Voices surveys, to your one-to-ones, team meetings, local colleague forums and one another. I would encourage you to share your views so we can ensure that we are doing our utmost to make HCA UK part of the solution on this critical issue.
