Mr Shankar is one of London’s leading general surgeons and is Medical Director at HCA UK's, Lister Hospital, having previously been Divisional Clinical Director of Gastrointestinal Services at University College London Hospitals.
His other HCA UK private practice locations include The Harley Street Clinic, The Wellington Hospital and HCA UK at University College Hospital.
His NHS base is University College and the Royal Free Hospitals and His surgical training was in London, primarily at The Middlesex, University College and Hammersmith Hospitals. He was awarded an MD for his research into the Development of Colorectal Liver Metastases.
Mr Shankar works in one of the largest HPB units in the UK and his interests include benign HPB conditions, in particular, acute and chronic pancreatitis, complex gallstone related conditions, emergency surgery and duodenal polyposis. He also leads the Abdominal Sarcoma Unit, which is part of the London Sarcoma Service, at University College Hospital. In addition, he runs the Hernia Clinic, which provides both open and laparoscopic techniques and he has particular interest in dealing with complex recurrences and complications.
