About
Mr. Aniruddha Chakravarti, a medical graduate since 1990, pursued post-graduate training in general surgery before delving into extensive urology training. Alongside his proficiency in General Urology, Mr. Chakravarti has cultivated a specialized interest in Robotic and Laparoscopic surgery of the upper urinary tract, as well as surgical procedures for benign prostatic enlargement, encompassing all types of laser surgery and the UROLIFT procedure for stone disease.
Having undergone rigorous laparoscopy training at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, France, he holds a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the Institute. Currently employed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust, Mr. Chakravarti regularly conducts da Vinci Robot-assisted and pure laparoscopic surgery of the upper urinary tract, primarily for treating kidney cancers.
With over four years of experience in using various lasers for prostatic surgery, Mr. Chakravarti stands as one of the few surgeons proficient in Holmium-YAG laser enucleation and morcellation of the prostate, alongside the UROLIFT procedure in suitable cases.
Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) stands out among other laser prostatectomy techniques for its ability to rapidly create a large cavity by immediately removing obstructing tissue. This method, suitable for large prostates of up to 100 grams, ensures relatively bloodless operations, reduces transfusion requirements, and mitigates the risks of systemic fluid absorption.
The UROLIFT procedure, on the other hand, provides symptom relief while preserving sexual function, often performed as a day case with no post-procedure catheterization required.
