About us
The Medical Admissions Unit (MAU) accepts GP referrals for patients with acute conditions or in cases where a GP thinks a patient has a severe and rapidly developing condition, patients may call to refer themselves as long as they have their GP’s details.
Whether referred from GP, oncologist, clinician, or directly from the Urgent Care Centre, our dedicated unit is appropriately staffed, with access to an exceptional team of medical specialists and facilities to diagnose and treat many conditions across a range of specialties.
However, we are not equipped to deal with emergencies such as strokes and heart attacks. If your symptoms are life-threatening, please go to your nearest NHS A&E department.
First Hour Assessment Policy
We believe that the first few hours of a patient presenting with acute conditions are critical to establishing the correct diagnosis and treatment plans, and as part of this our MAU’s ‘First Hour’ policy ensures that patients have the correct assessment, access, investigations and admission of initial treatments.
