Faisal Ahmed is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Western Eye Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust, specialising in glaucoma and cataract surgery and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London.
His clinical interests include glaucoma laser surgery including selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and endo-cyclodiode; in addition he performs complex surgery including glaucoma tube surgery, as well as microincision phacoemulsification cataract surgery.
He spent over 5 years training at Moorfields Eye Hospital as a junior and senior surgical trainee and then as Honorary Research Fellow in glaucoma.
He was then a Clinical Research Fellow with Mr Clive Migdal (president of the European Glaucoma Society) where he ran several clinical trials and was part of a team winning a national prize for an electronic patient record system that improves clinical management.
Faisal has continued his research interests by setting up the Imperial College Ophthalmic Research Group (ICORG) and is a senior investigator in a number of current studies.
He previously worked as a consultant in the Birmingham Medical Eye Center in the West Midlands running the supra-regional glaucoma service. The work included medical and surgical management of very complicated glaucoma patients.
Faisal was also the UK National World Glaucoma Day Co-ordinator and a member of a national glaucoma body, the Glaucoma Alliance, working with charities and other stakeholders in improving glaucoma awareness in the general population and improving glaucoma patient care. -
