Cecilia Bottomley specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of all benign gynaecology and early pregnancy related conditions. This encompasses conditions such as ovarian cysts, polyps, fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis and issues related to menstruation and menopause. She also provides expert opinions on miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy.
As an expert in gynaecology ultrasound she runs a scan-based practice. She performs regular gynaecological surgery at The Portland Hospital.
After graduating from Cambridge University in 1994, Cecilia competed specialist training in London. In her role as a Consultant Gynaecologist within the NHS, she collaborates with Professor Jurkovic at University College London Hospitals (UCLH) in the Gynaecology Diagnostic and Treatment Unit, renowned internationally. Prior to this, she was a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for 9 years.
Cecilia is an Honorary Associate Professor at University College London. Her original research MD focused on ultrasound scan to predict early pregnancy loss. She has since supervised research theses related to various early pregnancy conditions and has an active research interest in gynaecology and ultrasound, with over 40 academic publications. She has written two undergraduate textbooks and is a regular chapter contributor to postgraduate books. She is a peer-reviewer for several academic journals.
Beyond clinical practice, Cecilia serves as a Medical Advisor for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and is a former Scientific Chair for the Association of Early Pregnancy Units. She gives regular invited lectures on gynaecology for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as well as other national and international organisations.
Cecilia's main focus is on kind and compassionate care combined with accurate diagnosis and evidence based treatments.
