About prostate screening using mpMRI

A multi-parametric MRI scan is a new imaging technique that can help diagnose prostate cancer. It produces high-definition images of the prostate which help identify and locate a prostate tumour. MRI stands for 'magnetic resonance imaging'. It is an imaging technique that uses strong magnetic field and radio waves to create images of tissues, organs and other structures inside your body.

The multi-parametric is made up of three different MRI scans that target the prostate specifically. For those thought to be at risk of prostate cancer, this type of scan can be carried out in addition to a PSA blood test. If PSA levels are raised, the scan may be carried out before a biopsy.
