Music therapy is available for both children and adults during their neurological rehabilitation
What is music therapy?
Music therapy is one of the treatments we use to support those living with psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical, communicative and social needs. Our aim is to help patients achieve optimal recovery and well-being through a personalised programme, tailored to support the individual and their family.
Our consultants work with people of all ages whose lives have been affected by injury, illness or disability.
For adults The Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Centre at The Wellington Hospital features state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, giving full support to patients who need complex inpatient care. It also has three specialist gyms and a hydrotherapy pool.
For children music therapy is available at The Portland Hospital's Paediatric Acute Neurological Rehabilitation Unit.
Both our centre for adults and or unit for children are led by consultant neurologist and supported by a team of rehabilitation specialists that include: physiotherapists, music therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, dietitians, and specialist rehabilitative nursing.
Need to know
Our therapist will set a programme of therapy sessions, the first session will review current levels of interaction. They will discuss with you the details of any comprehensive rehabilitation programme that includes music therapy.
There is no preparation required. Our therapist will be able to explain the use of music therapy and answer any questions you may have.
Your therapist will be able to provide you with all the information you need about post-music therapy treatment and any follow-up sessions.
