MASTOPEXY (UPLIFT SURGERY FOR BREASTS)

Breast lift surgery is an operation to uplift and reshape your breasts to give a more youthful appearance

Enquiries & Appointments

What is a mastopexy?

Breasts can sag over time due to ageing, weight loss, pregnancy or breastfeeding. This is because the fibrous bands that support the breast stretch and break down.

Breast lift surgery, which is also known as a mastopexy, can help to reshape the breasts into a more youthful, firmer shape.

Need to know

Breast lift surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic, meaning you'll be asleep during the procedure. Your surgeon will remove excess skin from underneath the breast.

Your breasts are then reshaped, with the nipples repositioned higher to lie at the points of the tightened breasts. The size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) may also be reduced. Your surgeon will then close the area with stitches and apply a dressing and wrap to support your breasts.

Your consultant will explain how to prepare for your breast lift surgery. Like all procedures, there may some risks and side effects involved. Your consultant will explain these to you. As you're having a general anaesthetic, your consultant will tell you how long you should avoid eating and drinking before your operation.

You will be cared for in hospital for at least one night following your operation. After the operation you may have two small tubes (drains) in each of your breasts to drain any fluid. These will be removed after a short period of time.

A breast lift operation does leave scars around the nipple and under the breast. They will fade but they won't go away completely.
