About

Mr Nicholas Haden is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with over 15 years of experience. He previously held the position of Clinical Director of Neurosurgery at a regional neurosurgical centre in the South West before joining the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London.

Having completed his medical degree at the University of Cambridge in 1997, Mr Haden underwent his neurosurgical training rotation in Bristol and Plymouth. He further honed his skills through spinal fellowships in both orthopaedic and neurosurgical spine surgery, with training stints in Leeds and the prestigious Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, USA. His exceptional performance in the national Neurosurgical Examination earned him the esteemed Norman Dott Medal.

During his tenure in the South West, Mr Haden established himself as a sub-specialist practitioner in various domains, including minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery, intradural tumours, cord syrinxes, spinal dysraphism, and craniovertebral pathologies. He spearheaded pioneering work in the routine application of minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery techniques.

Currently, Mr Haden provides comprehensive spinal care, addressing a broad spectrum of spinal pathologies. His expertise spans minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery across the entire spine, as well as proficiency in managing cervical and craniocervical issues, Chiari malformation, intradural and intramedullary pathologies, spinal cord dysraphism, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, and thoracic disc prolapses.

Beyond his clinical commitments, Mr Haden is a national presenter on critical subjects such as surgical safety and human factors in surgery. He holds professional memberships with the British Association of Spine Surgeons, the Society of British Neurological Surgeons, and the British Syringomyelia and Chiari Group, where he serves as Chair. Additionally, Mr Haden acts as the Clinical Lead to the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Committee for MSCC Guidelines.
