Deformity and Complex Spinal Surgeon Mr Darren Lui is a highly trained expert who deals with the full spectrum of spinal problems, . Mr Lui is based at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and also offers private consultations at The London Bridge Hospital. 

Mr Lui's specialist areas of interest include paediatric and adolescent deformity surgery, including scoliosis and kyphosis (roundback)/Scheuremann’s disease. His surgical repertoire encompasses a vast range of procedures, which include revision, anterior and complex spinal surgery, scoliosis and kyphosis surgery, failed back syndrome, as well as treating of primary spine tumours, metastases of the spine and balloon and radiofrequency kyphoplasty. Mr Lui also helps patients experiencing more simple spinal problems, such as back and leg pain (sciatica).

In 2001, Mr Lui graduated from from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland before embarking upon a Masters degree in laboratory-based science, focused on investigating the role of insulin as an anti-inflammatory agent and its potential for treatment. He went on to complete three international spinal fellowships based at Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London. In 2016, he was appointed Consultant and held positions at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital before taking up his post at St George's Hospital.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Lui has vastly contributed to research in his field, having published over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented over 150 podium presentations. He also supervises two science Master's degrees. His research interests include trauma and orthopaedics as well as spine surgery, and he thoroughly enjoys teaching and sharing his insights and experience with others.
