Mr. Cauldwell, who trained at Imperial College London and qualified in 2007, completed a Masters in Surgical Education at Imperial in 2012. He obtained the MRCP (UK) and the MRCOG thereafter.

Following research at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospitals on maternal cardiac disease and pregnancy, he earned his MD at the University of London in 2016.

His maternal medicine training took place at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, and he is currently a member of the maternal medicine team at St George's. Mr. Cauldwell leads the diabetes service and the Obstetric HDU.

Matthew is an active member of the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society (BMFMS), UK Maternal Cardiac Society, and the MacDonald Obstetric Medicine Society. He has established a profile in the field of maternal cardiac disease and pregnancy.
