Dr Eleni Karapanagiotou Medical Oncologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer Dr Eleni Karapanagiotou did her general medical training and started her specialist oncology (cancer) training at Athens Medical School in Greece.

She completed her oncology training at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. During her training, she developed an interest in research. She was awarded a PhD from Athens Medical School in 2011 for her work on non-small cell lung cancer. A fellowship from the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) led her to the Institute of Cancer Research, London, to continue her work on combining chemotherapy with novel agents such as oncolytic viruses/immunotherapy in advanced cancer.

She was awarded an MD(Res) from the University of London in 2013 and her research has been presented and published internationally. She is the author of over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers with a particular interest in cancer. She is the principal investigator in clinical trials in lung and breast cancer with a specific interest in immunotherapy and novel agents. She is the chief investigator for international phase III clinical trials in lung cancer. Also, Dr Eleni Karapanagiotou has a keen interest in oncology in the elderly and had a major contribution in setting up the Geriatric Oncology Clinic at Guys Hospital.

She is co-editor in medical books including “Problem Solving in Cancer and Fertility” which won the BMA medical book award for 2022. Dr Eleni Karapanagiotou acts as an advisor to NICE on new treatments for cancer. Dr Eleni Karapanagiotou is a Medical Oncologist at Guy’s Cancer Centre and specializes in thoracic malignancies including NSCLC, SCLC, thymoma, thymic cancers, and mesothelioma.
