About

Professor Adam Frampton serves as a Consultant in General and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery, with practice locations in Guildford (Nuffield Hospital) and London (Cromwell Hospital). His NHS affiliation is with the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.

Specializing in complex gallstone disease (cholecystectomy), groin and abdominal wall hernia repair, and laparoscopic, liver, and pancreatic surgery, he holds expertise in investigating and treating benign and cancerous disorders of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract.

Qualifying from Imperial College London in 2003, he pursued an MSc in General Surgical Practice from the University of Kent in 2011. Returning to Imperial College London, he earned a PhD in 2014 for his research on complex gene interactions in pancreatic cancer.

Undergoing basic and higher surgical training in London and Surrey, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2018. He further honed his skills in laparoscopic/robotic HPB surgery at the Hammersmith and Royal Marsden Hospitals and in liver transplantation at the Royal-Free Hospital, London. International observerships in the USA and Europe enriched his experience.

Passionate about research, Professor Frampton aims to translate new discoveries into improved patient care. Recognized as one of the most knowledgeable specialists in his field, he has received awards such as the ASGBI Moynihan prize, the Sir James Fraser Travelling Fellowship, and the Hunterian Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Currently serving as the Vice Chancellor's Fellow and Senior Lecturer in Surgical Oncology at the University of Surrey, he leads a laboratory group and supervises BSc, MD(Res), and PhD students. His research focuses on molecular aspects of pancreatic, liver, and biliary-tract cancers, including biomarker development and targeted anti-cancer treatments. He explores the tumor microenvironment, microbiome, and mechanisms of metastasis, regularly publishing his findings in peer-reviewed journals. With over 120 research articles published, Professor Frampton provides a highly analytical and evidence-based approach to patient care, reflecting the "cutting-edge" nature of his research.
