About arthritis in the hands

Arthritis is condition that causes pain and inflammation in the joint. It's very common and can affect people of all ages. The most common types are osteoarthritis (caused by wear and tear) and rheumatoid arthritis (when the immune system attacks the joints). If you’re experiencing pain in your hands and wrists, it may be a sign of arthritis.

Your symptoms may include pain, swelling and stiffness in your wrists and fingers. You may also experience numbness, tingling, pitted nails, painful ulcers or thickened skin. Your symptoms are likely to depending on the type of arthritis you have.
Your consultant will discuss your symptoms with you and help to make a diagnosis. They may carry out a number of tests to get to the base of the problem.
