Another first for HCA UK: Da Vinci Single Port

We’re proud to announce that HCA UK has become the first healthcare provider in the UK to offer patients access to robot-assisted, minimally invasive, single-incision surgery using the versatile Da Vinci Single Port (SP) system.

This powerful new system innovation was developed right here in the UK, at London Bridge Hospital. For the first time, surgeons have the ability to perform complex prostate, kidney and reconstructive surgery through a single incision of less than 3cm. SP is opening up new surgical possibilities, with particular benefits for patients who can’t have multiple incisions or who already have a lot of scar tissue left by former procedures. Advanced vision features can help surgeons perform complex procedures with greater ease too.

Pioneering consultant urological surgeon Mr Ben Challacombe led the introduction of Da Vinci SP into the UK, supported by his highly experienced colleagues Professor Chris Eden and Mr Declan Cahill. The system will initially be used to treat patients undergoing surgery for urological conditions including prostate, kidney and bladder cancers. The plan is to gradually extend its use across gynaecology, breast, thoracic and head and neck surgeries.

Single Port joins HCA UK’s existing fleet of eight Da Vinci Xi surgical systems. Over 6,000 procedures have been carried out using this high-performance fleet, making HCA UK the leading provider of robotic-assisted surgeries in the independent sector in the UK.
